The COLLEGE of MEDICAL HYPNOSIS (CMH) conducts hypnotherapy training courses in Australia which are all based upon Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and the Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS).

See the LATEST NEWS for more information regarding COURSES and CORONAVIRUS in 2021 and also for 2020.

Training courses in Clinical Hypnosis - Hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and the Focussed Psychological Strategies are being conducted in NSW in Sydney in 2021 and have been conducted in all states of Australia in the past and are planned to be held in several capital cities in 2022 including Sydney, Brisbane, Darwin and Melbourne. We train nationally registered health professionals and social workers to use hypnotherapy as a set of adjunctive clinical skills. The CMH does not train non-health professionals to practise as hypnotherapists independently from their established health practitioner role, eg the nurse trained in hypnotherapy working in private practice continues to practise as a nurse, with the additional skills to also offer and to practise hypnotherapy.

These courses are amongst the highest professionally accredited courses for mental health training in Australia and have been so for more than 20 years. They are conducted for registered health professionals and social workers by registered professionals and are accredited by multiple professional health colleges and societies.

All training contains the Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) as required for medical practitioners, psychologists, occupational therapists and registered social workers for registration with Medicare for mental health item utilisation. Training was accredited by the RACGP and ACRRM and the GPMHSC in the 2017-2019 triennium for GPs to become registered with Medicare for Mental Health Skills Training (level 1) and FPS skills training (level 2) to use the extra Medicare mental health item numbers, eg 2715, 2717, 2712, 2721, 2723, 2725, 2727, 2729 and 2731. A re-application will be made soon for re-accreditation for this triennium. Modules of the Clinical Course have been approved by the RACGP and the GPMHSC for MH-CPD and FPS-CPD (modules 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6).

Please see the 'Latest News' section of this website for more details about applying for and using the Medicare mental health item numbers (note added 4/07/16). Also check MBS online for the telehealth and telephone mental health related Medicare item numbers.

These are amongst the highest Nationally Accredited training courses in Australia for Continuing Professional Development (PD or CPD) and Continuing Education (CE) for eligible health professionals as required by the Austalian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for registration. Medical practitioners including general practitioners and specialists, psychologists including clinical psychologists, nurses, midwives, dentists, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, social workers and occupational therapists are amongst eligible participants.

The 2021 course TIMETABLE is AVAILABLE now on this site as of the 4/3/21.
